I chose a small, unassuming establishment called Tops, which sits almost unnoticed next to a canal just a few blocks from the Leidesplein and museum district. On a Sunday morning, around 11:30AM, I saunter into Tops, trying to look like I knew what I was doing. The aroma permeating the shop was not quite what I expected. The air was full of “Essence of Europe”, an aroma that sometimes seems to permeate the air in Europe from Ireland in the west to Turkey in the east. Normally, this level of odiferous assault would be generated by a rowdy crowd returning from a long day of hooliganism at the local soccer championship. But, the sole generator of the eau natural that morning was Jochem, the bartender.
Let’s say the bookstore anticipates selling 7 copies of a book per week, or approximately 1 per day. Some days, 2 copies are sold, but never more than 9 books in any week and never more than 4 books in 3 days. Let’s also say that books can be printed and delivered in 3 days, which is nearly impossible with traditional printing but simple with POD. Then, using the kanban system, when only 4 books are in inventory (the maximum that will be sold between the time of the order and the time of the delivery), the company places an order for another 9 books. This way, just when the inventory has no more books from the previous order, the next order arrives.
It also has the effect of making her smile too, which will relax her and this is great as she will settle in to talking to you, rather than look for an escape. Another great result of this neat little trick is it can make her start to wonder if you’re interested and if she is, she will begin to flirt back with you, all without you really doing anything more than smiling at her.
Everything would be itemized on a bill pad, and added up the old fashioned way. Or the clerk would enter the price by hitting the manual keys of a cash register. We’d hand over our money and the cash drawer would fly open. Then our change would be counted back. When is the last time something actually counted back your change? These days it’s merely dumped into our waiting hand.
OGo get some holiday brochures and take them to a coffee shop to study (not flick through). Imagine you are at those locations, doing all the things you want to do. Every thought and feeling has an action and reaction so make them positive, positive, positive!
Sculptor Bill Burgess founded FrameWorks 34 years ago, then Ron and Julie Burnham owned it for 14 of what Colvin calls the “glory years,” when renowned photographer Myron Wood frequented the business.
For this reason, steer the conversation back in his direction whenever you can. Let your ex talk about what he’s been doing. Then, when the date ends, he’ll realize he never really asked you half the things he wanted to. and will immediately need to see you again.
Convenience is a factor too. You walk in, tell them what you want – no matter how odd or complicated – and they’ll put it together for you. It’s perfect for the non-fat, soy, single pump, half decaf crowd, but if you just want a little caffeine to wake you up, why go to that trouble? You can put your cup in and press start and in less than five minutes, while showering even, have your coffee ready for the morning commute.
